# Provision a certificate

In this how-to guide, we will use Notary to download a CSR, sign a certificate and provide this certificate back.

## [1. Sign the Certificate](https://charmhub.io/notary/docs/provision-certificates#p-33564-h-1-sign-the-certificate)

Download the CSR from Notary

Using the process of your choice, take this CSR and get it signed by the appropriate Certificate Authority (CA).

## [2. Upload Certificate to Notary](https://charmhub.io/notary/docs/provision-certificates#p-33564-h-2-upload-certificate-to-notary)

Once you have received your certificate back, copy and paste it into Notary. Make sure you copy the signing Certificate as well.

If the CSR came from a charm relation, the certificate you’ve uploaded will automatically be forwarded to it. Otherwise, Notary will save the details of this certificate for your convenience.
